Analysis

  • This game is not bad at all. The graphics is as well-rendered as the two other games in the series, but in a more clean and deliberate style. The color change between night and day is actually pretty impressive. The music is great as expected for this series, and the sound effects are pretty much perfect, even going so far as to subtly distinguish between your different whip upgrades. The game design builds on a great foundation: an open world Castlevania. The open world is a bit confusing, and there are some puzzle aspects to this that are highly obscure, as made famous by the first video published by James Rolfe, then named The Angry Nintendo Nerd, but no more obscure than what is expected from a game such as Dark Souls. Speaking of Dark Souls, the enemy encounters, open world, confusing items, and character dialogue all reminds me of Dark Souls, which made me think of how cool it would be if a Souls game had a day-night cycle, where the enemies would be more powerful in the dark, but also yield higher rewards.

  • After playing for around 4 hours with Erik at the office, we have made a lot of progress in this confusing but fascinating game.

  • Our code from yesterday's game is
    REJP XWFZ GO5V XOZT
. I think of that code in a different way after watching Bisqwits video about cracking passwords for this game. It's a bit weird that this video came out the day after we agreed to play this game. It's the internet hivemind at work, I guess.

  • Completed the game. We got the bad black and white ending.
