  • I just preordered. Supposedly, I'm getting a 'digital copy of DOOM 64' for preordering. That's pretty fun.
  • 2020-03-19
  • I got it in the mail now and installed it. Can't wait to play tonight.
  • This game has 13 missions.
  • I played through the first mission on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty and it's very cool so far. The enemy weak points is a neat idea.

  • I'm a bit conflicted about the level design after playing through mission 2. The combat is super fun and challenging, but the 3d platforming is extremely frustrating, and way too difficult. I must have died about 20 times by falling down and was very frustrated at the end.
  • Mission 3 ended with a neat mindcontrol sequence, where you control a Revenant that retrieves a Super Shotgun for the Doom Slayer.
  • The Doom Hunter Base culminated with a fun two-stage boss fight that I beat on my first try by being cautious and moving around a lot.
  • The Super Gore Nest is the most fun and exciting level so far. It's a big city, full of disgusting demonic growth.
  • I rescued the remains of Dr. Hayden (from the previous game) from the Arc Complex.
  • 2020-03-22
  • The Mars Core is a ridiculous and fun level, and an amazing introduction of the BFG. It's a planet gun.
  • I defeated the Gladiator in Sentinel Prime.
  • 2020-03-25
  • Taras Nabad sounds like an anagram of 'Satan' and something.
  • Nekravol ... now I'm just in Hell.
  • 2020-03-27
  • I completed 10/13 missions. I should be done this weekend.

  • 'The Soul Spire' in the second Nekravol area had a very intense encounter that I had to redo many times. It's very satisfying when you solve the combat puzzle of when to use which weapons. The end of this level starts hinting at a fight against angelic beings soon.
  • The next area, Urdak, indeed looked angelic in a similar style as Diablo III. The combat encounters have become very intense now, I needed lots of retries, and was very satisfied when completing them. There was a very difficult jump towards the end of the level, where I needed to do two double jumps in a row and then two dashes to get the height needed. It's not clear to me why the order of jumps and dashes matter, but they do. The Khan Maykr boss fight wasn't terrible, after I learned to use lock-on rockets to damage her.
  • The final level, 'The Final Sin', takes place back on Earth, where none other than The Icon of Sin, the final boss of Doom II is the boss. The boss fight was a bit buggy, it crashed once and once pushed me outside the level geometry.
  • 2020-03-30
  • Completed the game on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty.
  • By the way, I did not play any of the Slayer Gates at all. I thought the game was very difficult in the beginning, and I felt a little intimidated by these special challenges.

  • I would like to try this on PS5, and I should have a free upgrade waiting for me, but the PS5 version hasn't been released yet.
  • 2021-03-19
  • I'm curious about the DLC, but I'll wait for the PS5 version.
