This is Spintires with tutorials, challenge modes, and better graphics. I was just going to try it out, but ended up crawling slowly through mud with trucks for more than an hour. These games are fascinating to me, and there is something about this snail's paced experience that is very appealing.

This version of the game looks great and runs well. Like the original Spintires, the interface is pretty horrible, and the cockpit view looks awful, but apart from that, this is a very cool game for a very specific audience.

What was supposed to be a relaxing casual truck drive, ended up in a horrible nightmare of trying to pull my trucks out of a river, and flipping one of them over on the beach.

I finally beat the horrible 'two trucks on the beach' challenge that was giving me so much trouble. And then a nice relaxing drive to grandmother's house.

I played 20 minutes this morning, and I'm working on the final challenge. Many Russian cars drowned.

I did it! I'm very tired after a long day of work, but I still managed to crawl up a mountain with a UAZ-3151 1985 Soviet Jeep-like vehicle.

I delivered my first 3 trunks. It was an ordeal, I almost ran out of fuel, tipped the truck over and dropped the lumber on the ground, and went with a crane and picked it back up again.

I explored the rest of the map, and went back and forth a couple of times, confused about Log Stations and Lumber Mills.

I completed the first map, The Bog. I just brought 8 logs to the lumber mill. And now I have the Island to explore!
  • [10754]
Completed the Island map. After completing the first map, the Island was much faster.

I'm playing the Sea Shore map now.

I have been running a smooth logging operation, and finished the Seashore map.

The Crossing map is tricky, there is just a big river that you have to cross. The small UAZ-3151 does not work for this. The right tool for the job was the mighty MAZ-535 with its giant tires.

Completed The Crossing. I learned that you can refuel trucks using fuel transports, but critically, the fuel transports start out empty, and can only be refuelled in fuel stations. This makes sense from a game design perspective, if not from a real-world perspective.

I ordered a copy of SnowRunner, now let's finish this one.

I noticed a wonderful detail in this game: plants will bend when close to the exhaust from the engine.

    I completed Downhill.

I played through most of Deluge, the most difficult map with a huge river in the middle, when I quit the game to take a break. When I tried to load it again, the game wouldn't start because of missing DLC. I never got any DLC, so this message was confusing. I tried restarting, changing profile, and even deleted my local savegame and re-downloaded it, with no luck. In the end I looked through the available DLC, and downloaded 3 free maps. That did it, and I could complete Deluge.

completed the game on Casual difficulty. Completed all Challenges and Maps.

The DLC maps have a few new weird vehicles.

I was struggling with figuring out the basic game loop of MudRunner in the beginning. After having completed the game, here is my understanding of how the game loop works in CASUAL mode:
    1. Garages: If no Garages are unlocked, carry 4 Garage Points to a Garage (this can be the weird blue carts). Now you can teleport all trucks to the garage for refueling and repairs.
    2. Recon: Use a recon vehicle to find all the Watchpoints and uncover the map.
    3. More Garages: If more Garages can be unlocked, it's probably a good idea to do so, transport 4 Garage Points to each.
    4. Lumber: Now transport 8 Lumber from a Log Station or Log Kiosk (the Log Kiosk requires a crane) to each Lumber Mill. That's it, you've completed the map.
