Facts

  • Both Rocks and Mountains heal HP when they are placed adjacent to another Rock or Mountain. Mountain Peaks are even better, and can be created by making a 3x3 grid of Rocks and Mountains. Rocks should be preferred for this, since Mountains heal more than Rocks.
  • Meadows, which heal HP at the start of each day, don't benefit from being adjacent to other Meadows, they should be placed adjacent to other types of tiles to make Blooming Meadows that heal more.
  • Building a non-Meadow next to a Meadow turns it into a Blooming Meadow.
  • The Forest Camp building unlocks Forests, which provides an attack speed bonus.
  • Necromancer stats:
    • Attack Speed: skeleton summon speed
    • Skeleton Level: Skeleton health and DMG = (1 + level)
    • Summon Quality: Chance of spawned skeletons being Guards or Warriors
  • polygon.com: Loop Hero guide: Card list
  • Sand dunes and Deserts lowers enemy HP.
  • Village/Vampire Mansion combo: A Village that touches a Vampire Mansion becomes a Ransacked Village. 3 loops later it becomes Count's Lands, which heals a lot.
  • Treasury: Roadside tiles such as Vampire Mansion also count for filling out all adjacent tiles.
  • It seems you can use the gold card 'Ancestral Crypt' every run.
  • Ancestral Crypt gives HP and resurrection in exchange for removing any HP bonus from armor. The Necromancer can't equip armor that boosts HP, so there is no downside in this case.
  • Orb of Expansion may be dropped from a 5-monster fight. Placing Vampire Mansions across from Villages will create a 5-monster fight.
  • The boss appears after placing a set amount of cards.

Analysis

  • Lately, I have been thinking about Loop Hero and how much I love the graphics. I think the game is interesting and innovative, but I find that laying a strategy and building a deck is more interesting than the loop gameplay itself. But what truly got me about Loop Hero is the graphics. It nails an early 1990s pixel art style with intricately detailed tiles, a very limited color palette giving a carefully curated noisy look, and subtle depth from slightly overlapping tiles in its excellent use of the three-quarters view. In fact, coming back to Loop Hero inspired me to create a new graphical category of three-quarters perspective games. Due to its perspective, repetition of tiles, and detail, a late-game Loop Hero screenshot ends up having a satisfyingly ordered look which still manages to look organic based on tile placement.

  • I saw footage from this game some time ago, and was *very* excited for the graphics. It's extremely well-executed pixel art with a very small palette and excellent use of orderd dithering. The actual game looks fascinating and I'm still not sure how it works. I will discover soon.
  • It was around 100 DKK.
  • 4-pixel fonts in 2021. I approve.

  • I played a few rounds of this, died a few times, and garnered some resources to build upgrades to my town. I enjoy it, even though the strategy is still unclear to me.
  • I've been upgrading my base and ended up beating CHAPTER 1.
  • 2021-03-14
  • I unlocked a new character class, the Rogue.
  • I'm gathering resources to build the Crypt. I need more stone.
  • 2021-03-15
  • I actually had a game running on my laptop while in the shower today. This game is not exactly an idle game, but you *could* leave it running and get some progress.
  • 2021-03-16
  • I built the Crypt and unlocked the Necromancer class, which is super fun to play. He summons different types of skeletons to fight for him. I reached the Chapter 2 boss, but failed. I was pretty close, though. I unlocked a crafting systems that enables permanent character upgrades. I'm now picking up crafting materials such as ham and cheese.
  • 2021-03-17
  • I'm playing this in the morning before work. I might be addicted.
  • 2021-03-22
  • I finally got the Forest building and unlocked the cards 'Thicket' and 'Forest', which improves attack speed, and I also managed to get the 'Count's Lands' and 'A Village?' tile.
  • 2021-03-23
  • My current goal is to build the River camp building. For this, I'm farming Orbs of Expansion by entering 5 monster fights. My strategy is to place Vampire Mansions next to Villages. I just played a 2 hour long run with the Necromancer, reaching loop 23. I was barely playing at the end, which made it all the more sad that I was killed by 3 Bandits. I gotta get rid of those Bandit Camps.
  • 2021-03-24
  • I'm wondering if I should try playing the Necromancer without Mountains and Rocks. Ideally, he wouldn't need an HP boost?
  • My no-Rock, no-Mountain, kill-all-Bandits Necromancer strategy seems to work. I successfully farmed 7 Orbs of Expansion in a single run.
  • 2021-04-03
  • The Outpost card seems to be a benefit for the Rogue, slightly less so for the Warrior, and a drawback for the Necromancer.
  • 2022-10-13
  • This is a good game to unwind after a long work day. I'm trying to harvest resources to build more buildings, playing on fastest speed. I managed to build the Smelter, unlocking the Storm Temple and the Arsenal tiles. The Arsenal seems essential, since it unlocks an equipment slot on your character.
  • 2022-10-14
  • I want to build a River 'building' next, looks like an interesting unlock.
