The Genesis port of the 1988 PC-88 game, which improved graphics and great music.
CALL summons monsters from the previous mission in the Campaign mode. Unused in single battle.
FORCE summons an elemental to attack an enemy, call from an hex that contains an enemy.
HELP on suggests a move when a monster is selected. Pretty annoying, I keep it off.
Towers increase monster limit, enables summoning monsters on them, and heals monsters.
The wall tiles next to the bases don't heal units.
Enemy bases also don't heal units.
I think the appeal of this game is not really combat strategy, but more in keeping your limited array of monsters alive and leveling them up to become unstoppable killing machines. As I understand it, you can keep leveling up your monsters during a campaign, so maybe that's the most interesting way to play this.
I'm playing my first serious game, I gave myself way more mana income than the AIs, which makes learning the game a bit easier.
I completed this one stage and got a credits roll. That was fun, I even ended up with a lvl3 dragon!
I played a marathon session, completing the first stage of Campaign 1 in 2.5 hours.
