Series : OutRun Developer : Sega Genre : Racing games Graphics : Bitmap-based 3D Release Info : MiSTer implementation Ports : OutRun (1991 SEGA Genesis)
If you assign the gear shift to a button in MiSTer, it works like this: You hold down the button for low gear, release for high gear. When you're below around 170 km/h, hold the button to accelerate faster, when you're above, release it to gain top speed.
The game runs at a staggered 30 FPS, although it doesn't seem completely consistent. In even frames, the road is updated, in odd frames, the roadside bitmap elements are updated.
The MiSTer implementation of OutRun now seems to work almost flawlessly. I now started playing it for real for the first time. It's way more enjoyable than I thought.
I played a bit of this on my birthday at Bip Bip Bar in Copenhagen.
