Silent Hill 8: This series needs to take a break

- 2228After the game killed my save the last time I played, I started over (on normal/normal) with Nabaz watching and falling asleep during my spending an hour looking through a house for a bunch of electrical wires. I've found a large amount of weapons during my exploration of the outskirts of Silent Hill, but not much to use them on. I'm not against the lack of combat in a horror game, but why all the nailed boards, knives, meat cleavers? Maybe I should stop picking them up. :)
- 3128I'm trying to get a bit further along in this latest Silent Hill game as a Halloween activity, but it's not much fun right now. Combat is unresponsive and overly simplistic, and the one remotely interesting mechanic of being able to block is deprecated by your items getting destroyed by doing it. It's also hard for me to accept that even though the life of the protagonist may depend on it, it is just impossible for him to cross a police line made of plastic tape. Impossible.
- 3130I reached Silent Hill, and I'm in the Centennial Building. Fun fact: a First Aid Kit restores 50% health.
- 3131Sigh. Ghost trains, rollercoaster rides, uninspired dream sequences, scene transitions accomplished by the protagonist waking up some random place. Pretty weak storytelling.
- 3132Reached Chastain Heights, chapter 10/18.
- 3135Oh ... Two wake-up-random-place in a row in chapter 12/18. Great.
- 3138Boom! Skipped all the side quests and we're at chapter 16.
- 3139Completed the game on Normal difficulty. It was Hammertime for Anne, and I got the 'Execution' ending. And now some Korn.
