Analysis

  • I didn't know what this game was, but I was delighted to find out that it's almost uncategorizable, because the gameplay is so original and weird. You control a face around the screen, bounce into objects that then fall down in a physics-like way. If the objects hit enemies, they turn into balls that can be collected for bonus points and power-ups. What genre is this? Not a platformer, not a shooter, not a paddle game. It's its own thing, I guess.

  • This was programmed by and assumedly designed by Chris Yates, who seems to have designed a bunch of interesting games, such as the predecessor Wizball, Insects in Space, Mega lo Mania, and he co-designed Sensible Soccer as well. The DOS credits for Cannon Fodder lists him and Jon Hare for 'original concept', but he's completely left out of the Amiga credits. According to the Critical Moves website, he and Jon Hare had the idea for Cannon Fodder back in 1983, but Yates probably wasn't involved in the development of the actual computer game.
