- 3180Played the intro-tutorial. I don't particularly like Ryse. It doesn't look that good, and the gameplay seems a bit boring.
- 3191Completed chapter V/VIII. I have now tried starting from the last checkpoint several times, and every time the Xbone freezes after playing an annoyingly long unskippable cut-scene.
- 3192The gameplay of Ryse is mostly simple melee combat, sword and shield, which works well enough, although it could benefit from more variety. Halfway through the game, the difficulty is pretty good, I am being challenged by having to keep track of many enemies at once, but the constant quicktime event executions are starting to get on my nerves. The swordfighting is broken up by two kinds of sequences, turret sequences with ballistas, which consist of pointless auto-aiming, and squad sequences, where you control a group of legionnaires, basically telling them when to move forward, block incoming arrows, and attack using spears. Although these sequences has a certain charm, the actual gameplay is utterly uninteresting. The later levels look great, the focus effects and face detail being what reminds me the most that this is not running on an Xbox 360.
- 3193Restarted chapter V and played it again from the beginning. A moderate amount of brokenness is to be expected from a launch game, I suppose...
- 3194Completed chapter VI/VIII. Combat is more fun, now that I understand how it works.
- 3195Completed the game on Soldier (2/4) difficulty.
