This game is based on the 2003 Japanese TV show 'GameCenter CX', where we follow the struggles of comedian Shinya Arino, who must play and complete old games. Unlike most TV shows about video games, this show takes the games very seriously and dives deep into individual levels and strategies. As of 2023, the show is still running on its 27th season!
The show seemed very unique in 2003, where most TV about video games was incredibly shallow. Episodes from the show could be watched by Western viewers on YouTube later. This TV genre turned out to be incredibly popular, as Twitch and YouTube now has an incredible amount of videos where we follow funny hosts struggle to play through video games.
You can save which challenges you have beat by selecting 'Quit' from the menu.
I'm playing this on RetroArch. I have definitely heard of this game, but never seen it, and I watched many full episodes of the TV Show on YouTube, and enjoyed them very much.
The first minigame 'Cosmic Gate' is supposed to be from 1984, and I'm sitting with young Arino and playing on a Famicom.
I beat the 'Cosmic Gate' challenges. Now I'm playing 2D platformer 'Robot Ninja Haggle Man'.
I beat a couple of challenges in Haggle Man. I really like this platformer, it's fun and challenging to use the doors.
