I got to meet Caleb Wood at the IGF Pavilion at GDC, and I was immediately drawn to his solo project Nidus. It's an amazing looking arcade-style shooter, where you control a flower and a bee with the two joysticks and shoot/dash with the triggers. It's mentally a lot to deal with, and even after playing a long session, I still feel like I'm not understanding the mechanics very well.

Caleb told me that Devil Daggers was among his inspirations. I'm not surprised.
