Analysis

  • This game has a lot of issues, and I'm actually a bit surprised why it got decent reviews.

I will start with a positive note: the FPS sequences where you're gunning down criminals with your trusty 'Auto 9' feel like what you want from a RoboCop game. Slow, methodical, and ultra-violent. The environments also look great in general, especially the broken down parts of Detroit. And I like that it's an RPG where you slowly build up skills. That's about the end of what I like about the game.

Apart from the occasional scripting bug, occasional audio glitching in certain areas, and the weird pixelated nightmare that all faces appear as for 1 frame after a camera change, the game technically works OK. The dialogue is slow, stiff, and poorly acted, and I'm enjoying the game more when I'm just mashing square to skip all of it. This approach did get me into trouble when I had to defuse a bomb and skipped the instructions for which order to cut the wires, but I feel it was still worth it. The open world sections are long and boring, and it's impossible to care for the stiffly animated wax doll characters populating the city and their stupid plot lines. The sound design is very sparse and unevenly mixed, although they did put the focus on the right things in what was undoubtedly a fast development period: the combat sounds good, and that's what's the most important.

I think this is a very mediocre game. The combat is enjoyable, but that's about it.

  • Whoa, I just realized the screenshot has a huge problem: the green highlighting that RoboCops visor shows on top of targets is reflected in the floor. Why would RoboCop's visor show a target overlay of a reflection? Makes no sense.

  • I got this on sale for 68 DKK.

  • I'm learning that I should be focusing on leveling up Deduction first, as it gives a 30% XP boost.

  • This is a FPS RPG, similar to Fallout 3, you have fun FPS sections where you murder crime punks, and quests where you roam an open area and engage in dialogue with various NPCs. The dialogue is stiff and unengaging, so I'm mostly in the missions to get more XP. The FPS is pretty fun, it feels enough like RoboCop to fulfil that fantasy.

  • I have played 22/31 missions, skipping all cutscenes and dialogue. Malu was frustrated watching this grotesque way of playing, but I feel pretty good about it. I just want to shoot criminals and level up.

  • Completed the game on difficulty ().

The last boss fight was against 'RoboCop 2' but with The Old Man inside instead of Cain.
