Atari's Video Pinball is a very early example of a video pinball game, and a great example of pure arcade hardware magic. The pinball table itself was a miniature playfield with LEDs mounted in the roof of the cabinet, reflected towards the player using a two-way mirror. The dynamic parts of the game, the flippers and the ball, is rendered on a monitor facing upwards, showing through the mirror.
