Defender of the Crown was very ambitious, especially concerning its graphics. According to MobyGames, Art Director James D. Sachs led a team of 7 artists to produce graphics of immense detail and style.

Although Defender of the Crown seemed like an OK strategy game, I mostly played it for the graphics, which was beyond anything we had seen at the time. Amazing detail, lighting, and effects made what was maybe a pretty simple game really stand out.
