Completed the game (MAME). Shot the plane pilot and got the bad ending. What an annoying design decision to make the whole game unlimited continues with immediate resume (and thus completable by a trained monkey), and have the final challenge have a single try. Also, I tried reloading a state before the final shootout, but ran out of health which also resulted in immediate bad ending with no continue option.
