This game looked fascinating in videos, I had to try it out. You're moving a ship around the screen in a Space Harrier-like fashion, flying into the screen. The background looks like it's fully prerendered 3D, and looks like it's changing viewpoint depending on the position of your ship, which doesn't seem possible. It took me a while to decode the visual trick, but as far as I can tell, the whole background is a static looped animation that is somewhat larger than the screen, and it scrolls opposite to the position of your ship. There is no parallax effect, which can be verified by noticing that both sides are exactly mirrored. The scrolling hides this lack of parallaxing to a degree. The prerendered ship sprite also changes sprites depending on the position, adding to the illusion.
