  • My wiki has a 2005 entry about MAME emulation of various games, among them Marble Madness. I created a scoreboard and described it as a 'cool puzzle'.

  • Around this time, I was playing a lot of games on MAME, and found the original version of this treasure from my childhood. I was pleased to find that this game could be controlled very effectively with the keyboard, by turning the 'Track X/Y Digital Speed' way up.
  • I don't think I ever got further than the Silly Race.

  • We bought a USB trackball for the company, and I immediately wanted to try it in MAME. I didn't get it to work well in Marble Madness, and I think I realized why: setting the sensitivity too high causes the values to 'roll over' in MAME, which gives you very stuttery input. Finding a sensitivity low enough where the fastest trackball movement doesn't roll over is crucial.

  • I just tried training the last level on my ZenBook on my way to Fjerritslev. I think I realized that playing this game with arrow keys is too frustrating. Playing with keyboard keys has two problems: there is no way to change speed in-game, and the keys move the ball in the screen cardinal directions, not diagonally, which is most often what you need in this game. An analog joystick (or trackball, of course) would be better.
