I played through the first couple of missions. It's XCOM in every way, in that the combat rules seem interesting and well-designed, the metagame is confusing and stressful, the graphics have a lot of weird little quirks, and load times are horrible.
I'm preparing to build a Guerilla Tactics School to get the squad size upgrade, and taking a few missions until that time. A lot of soldier deaths and reloads. This game is hard.
In order to get some enjoyment out of this game, I have restarted on 'Rookie' difficulty. To avoid the option of save-scumming completely and save on boring load times, I have enabled the 'Ironman' flag, so I can't save-scum.
I was showing this to Nabaz, and without considering how Ironman Mode works, played a mission poorly for fun, suicided, and quit the game without saving. It turned out that Ironman Mode means a single save, automatically saved after every turn. So now I have a save in a mission, just before the suicide.
