What if Dark Souls took place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and you used guns instead of swords? 'Remnant: From the Ashes' is the answer, a fun but fiendishly difficult action RPG.

  • This Dark Souls-inspired third person shooter released at 299 DKK. I played a couple of hours solo, it seems difficult and fun.

  • Mathias told me about Gorefist, the first boss that he couldn't beat. I reached his lair in the dungeon today, and I see the problem. He killed me once, and then I went back and upgraded my armor and weapons. The Weapon Mods are really powerful, both Mender's Aura (healing) and Hunter's Mark (mark enemies, more critical hits). Going back in, he killed me 5 more times. I decided to go back into the dungeon and grind a bit more on the easy Hollows.
  • After upgrading a bit more, Gorefist killed me 15 more times. I think I agree with Mathias.
  • I followed Mathias' recommendation and 'rerolled' the campaign. My character, upgrades, and equipment were kept, but the world layout was recreated.
  • Getting through the dungeon was easier this time, and now I have a new boss: Shroud!
  • I defeated Shroud. I'm excited to see the next area!

  • The second game I tried on my shiny new PS4 Pro. Running this seems indistinguishable from running it on the standard PS4.

  • I wanted to show Erik this game, and I managed to make a 'LAN party' by connecting both of the machines to the internet, Erik playing on my PS4 Pro, and me starting a new character on my old PS4. We ended up playing this game all day. It's is much easier in coop, and we played through the early area and fought the dragon-like boss, Singe.
  • In the next area, we defeated the boss Scourge.
  • 2019-10-14
  • We reached a weird desert area with primitive skull-people and flying radioactive skulls that look like they belonged in DOOM. This game is *way* easier with two players. More fun, too.
  • 2019-10-16
  • I joined Erik's game and we went into the Mad Max-style desert area Rhom and a weird alien dungeon. This game is very enjoyable when played in coop.
  • 2019-10-19
  • I wanted to play a bit with the Hunter character to level him up for playing with Erik (I'm dying a lot right now, so he needs it). This character then started the game over.
  • The game seems to have scaled to my level, it's not super easy. I managed to defeat the first boss again, which was the arrow-firing Shroud.
  • I found The Cult of the Root, which seemed to be a weird mutated root and one guy worshipping it.
  • 2019-10-21
  • Another LAN-party with Erik, we went down to the basement of Ward 13 and found a neat submachinegun. When then went back to The Loom of the Black Sun (alien dungeon) and fought Claviger (a big tree thing).
  • We met the Undying King, who is clearly evil. However, we thought he was cool and made a deal to get him a Guardian's Heart.
  • We slowly made our way through next swampy area and defeated The Unclean One, who's clearly The Butcher from Diablo.
  • The Thrall was a relatively easy boss fight, which didn't prepare us for Ixillis XV (and XVI), which was like fighting two super-aggressive Moonlight Butterflies at once. Very difficult.
  • Got the Butterfly Effect trophy. - We did it! Very tricky boss fight. Now, a new jungle area is open.
  • 2019-10-29
  • Erik and I played for hours, and reached the Re-animator boss. However, we couldn't proceed past this, because the game keeps crashing on both the PS4 and the Pro.
  • 2019-11-02
  • Remnant was just updated with a new Hardcore Mode and hopefully a lot of bugfixes. Even though it seemed even harder than before, Erik and I managed to get through the Re-animator boss fight by focusing on killing the teleporting enemies and leaving the rest alive, easy to kite around the level.
  • The next boss, Onslaught, was easy and very buggy. He teleported into a wall and got stuck, and he teleported outside the level, forcing us to drink poison and respawn. Finally, he just seemed to be stuck in one place, and we killed him.
  • We entered what was clearly a boss arena, but with 5 bells with the same pitches as an earlier music puzzle. I managed to play the song of that puzzle, which did nothing. It turned out later that the puzzle was optional, and the boss was actually present and visible in the level. After informing Erik, he ran around for a while, looking for the boss, and we ended up standing next to the big dog monster before Erik finally discovered it. The actual boss fight was very easy.
  • We travelled through a mirror to Ward 17, and found The Dreamer, which was a man with a weird VR helmet on. He is clearly the end boss.
  • Completed the game. The second stage of the boss was confusing, we didn't deal any damage to him. It turned out that you have to get caught by the boss, teleported into a dream reality, kill a few enemies there, get out, and then attack the boss, now dealing lots of damage. After a while, the boss opens up, and you can hit The Dreamer inside. We got him, and then sailed away in a little boat, watching a tower fall down in the background.
