  • Decided to get this for 90 DKK on play.com. Let's see if it's any good.

  • Got it in my mailbox today. The disk was a little bit scratched, but installed just fine. I tried the training mission and ended up with a 'Ninja 5' ranking, which corresponds to Grand Master in the older Tenchu games. 'Ninja 5' - what a completely boring rank name. I was looking at the achievements, which are extremely straightforward. However, the achievements for completing all 'Easy', 'Normal', and 'Hard' missions on 'Ninja 5' do not stack, so to get all the achievements, I need to 'Ninja 5' all missions 3 times. *Sigh*. I think I'll start on 'Normal' and see if I enjoy the game enough to keep playing.
  • There are also achivements for killing 'Tomikichi', which are enemies that wear straw hats and are not archers. There should be one per level, and I need to find them all. And kill them. For having stupid hats.
  • Completed Mission 1/50 and I think I got the Tomikichi guy... 50? That's a lot of missions.
  • Completed Mission 2/50. I did 10 stealth kills and got detected 5 times(!) and still got a' Ninja 5' rank. Seems to be a bit more lenient than previous instalments.
  • Completed Mission 3/50. And got the Tomikichi guy on both mission 2 and 3. I'm really starting to like this game. It looks like a poorly HD-ified PS2 game, but the controls feel great once you get used to them, and your ninja guy moves with agility and speed. In terms of pure gameplay, this seems like the best Tenchu so far.
  • Argh! Fell into a square trap-hole. It warned me with a slight rumble. That's From Software style right there: rumble, die. Start over. Hate those guys.
  • Apparently, you don't lose your items upon death. That's something, I guess.
  • Good design choices: a way to deal with innocents (stunning them), reintroduce corpse carrying, stabbing people through doors.

  • Ninja 5'ed Mission 4/50. Not sure if I got the Tomikichi guy.
  • Got the Killed 5 Tomikichi achievement. - Just killed my 5th silly-hat-dude, which proves that I did get the one in mission 4.
  • Ninja 5'ed Mission 5/50.
  • 2012-06-13
  • Ninja 5'ed Missions 6 and 8. I am truly enjoying returning to Tenchu, with its calm and patience-demanding gameplay, interrupted only by swift and stylish bursts of violence. Got the hat-guy in both missions.

  • Ninja 5'ed Mission 7. Don't think I got the hat guy. I really enjoy doing a mission once in a while. So relaxing to perch on a roof, await the perfect time, and pounce and stab some unknowing samurai dude.
  • N5'd Mission 9, killed hat guy. The cutscenes are exceptionally poorly done - they look unfinished, without facial animation and a lot of conspicuous behind-the-back camera angles.

  • N5'd Mission 10,11,12 with Peter Buchardt, killed all hat guys.
