Facts

  • The Drive Impact FP+FK is similar to a Focus Attack from SF4, unblockable, provides armor, and stuns the opponent, to e.g. set up a Super Move.

  • Drive Parry MP+MK is a parry that can be held ahead of time or timed with the attack, it repels an attack and refills the Drive Gauge. It has slow recovery, which is the main tradeoff.

  • How to use Discord for voice chat:
    - In Discord on Phone: Profile:Connections, ADD, PlayStation Network and sign in to your PSN profile.
    - Start call on Phone
    - Transfer call to PlayStation
    - Make sure controller mic is unmuted
    Apart from this, check the balance of voice and gameplay audio. If you're recording, this should be set to full gameplay audio, as the Discord audio can be routed out the controller speaker.

  • To play Battle Hub with a friend, start Battle Hub and select the same server. Find each other's avatars, find a cabinet, and sit down and play.

  • Drive Gauge:
    - Blocking damages Drive Gauge
    - You only get chip damage if Drive Gauge is empty
    - Overdrive (EX) moves, Drive Impact (Focus attack), holding Parry, and Drive Rush all use the Drive Gauge.

  • Drive Impact has armor to a couple of attacks.

  • Drive Parry:
    - Slow recovery, but you can block during recovery
    - If you get thrown during DP it deals almost double damage.

  • Drive Rush can be performed with MP+MK (parry),F,F or F,F,MP+MK.

  • Drive Reversal (Alpha Counter):
    - F+FP+FK after blocking an attack
    - Is invincible and breaks Armor
    - Has protection from throws.

  • Offline Extreme Battle matches count for the trophy 'Over the Top Victory'.

  • Ranked mode Leagues are per character.

  • You can get Outfit 2 for a character by reaching Bond Level 100 with a Master in World Tour mode. You increase Bond Level by buying gifts for the Masters. A few examples of the best gifts:
    * Guile: Natto
    * Cammy: Jellied Eel
    * Deejay: Lukewarm Beer
    * E Honda: Rubber Duckies
    * Ken: Cookbook
    * Ryu: Instant Soba

Analysis

  • I think the credits took more time than finishing the game.

  • Lil Wayne is the face of the SF6 marketing. The sleepy looking rapper seems like a strange choice, but the news outlets describes him as a 'rap legend', which is probably true at this point. I'm partial to the rap legends of 1991 when SF2 came out: Gang Starr, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, and Ice-T.

  • Am I enjoying this? Not sure. The more I play, the more it feels like an RPG, with my character getting stronger and stronger, which is quite satisfyring. I like customizing my moves, and it's interesting to meet a new Master and add their moves to the repertoire. The clothes also works as stat-enhancing equipment, but weirdly, I found a Blanka suit very early on that is better than any other clothes, so I have never changed it since then. You can set up visual clothes and stats clothes separately, so I don't have to look like a green dufus the whole time. This means that I never had to care about clothes at all, which makes that whole system seem redundant. The open world is a bit static and uninteresting, but it does have little Street Fighter easter eggs everywhere. The story is impossible for me to care about, and I'm skipping all the dialogue. The one exception is the short introduction vignettes for the Masters, which are usually quite fun. Overall, I don't think this is very good, even compared to a standard JRPG.

  • Everyone's favourite Lil' Wayne was introducing a very impressive showcase of all the modes in SF6, and I have to admit, this looks like the most feature rich Street Fighter game, including a silly but fun looking open world mode and a real team battle mode, like Tekken. There is also a remix battle mode where the rules are changed, possibly a bit like the crazy modes in MK9. The best news of all was that there is a demo out now, which I'm immediately downloading.

  • I'm very curious about Marisa, the strong gladiator woman, and JP, the Saruman-looking old dude.

  • It's out June 2nd, I should probably preorder it on disc.

  • I played a bunch of matches with Ryu and Luke, getting used to the new rules. It seems relatively simple and straightforward.

  • 2023-05-19
  • Downloading open beta now, should make for a fun weekend.

  • 2023-05-20
  • The open beta is out now, and I have been playing for 5 hours since it was released. It's online matches only, so I'm getting used to the possibly demoralizing feeling of being destroyed by other online players. I feel like I'm doing OK though, especially with Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and even Luke. I'm having trouble with executing moves with Guile, I never learned how to play Juri, and Kimberly and Jamie are still a mystery to me.

  • The open beta and the demo convinced me that SF6 plays extraordinarily well, sound design and animation ensures the combat feels impactful and cool, and the characters animate incredibly well with a lot of expressivity. I'm very much looking forward to playing some Arcade Mode with all the characters, less so the World Tour, which seems a bit half baked.

  • 2023-05-24
  • Preordered for 499 DKK.

  • 2023-06-01
  • I got it delivered today, and I immediately jumped into Arcade Mode and played through Ryu's story. You choose to play 5 or 12 rounds, and I got to fight a truck, which was funny to me considering how much I've been trucking recently.

  • Completed the game with Ryu (Arcade 5 rounds).
  • 2023-06-03
  • We just came home from a nice trip to Aarhus which included watching Chemical Brothers at Northside Festival, and me and Hellspawn joined up in the Battle Hub and fought with Discord chat. He's annoyingly good with Marisa and I was exhausted, but I still pulled out a few victories.

  • 2023-06-04
  • I finished the 10 ranking matches with Ryu, and then realized that ranking is per character, and I was close to finishing the 10 matches with Luke as well. Now they are both in Iron League, the lowest one.

  • 2023-06-05
  • Completed the game with Marisa (Arcade 12 rounds).

    The greek Pankration bruiser Marisa is amazingly fun to play.

  • I screwed up and played too well with Marisa, and now I'm in Gold League, where I definitely don't belong.

  • I started playing World Tour mode. I created a new character, FIGHTOR, which is an giant old beefy dude that pummels people half to death with his giant fists. The World Tour mode runs well now, and I'm actually enjoying the silliness.

  • 2023-06-15
  • Completed the game with Ken.
  • Completed the game with Guile.
  • Completed the game with Chun-Li.
  • 2023-06-29
  • Completed the game with Luke.
  • 2023-07-01
  • Completed the game with Cammy.

    Cammy is fun, I especially like her QCF+P to grab move. And the 'Rockin' Jelly Bean' artwork I unlocked - very good.

  • Completed the game with Deejay.

    Deejay is an amazingly flexible fighter, he has moves to deal with any situation, and is a lot of fun to play. I figured out how to do his Combo Super: QCFx2 LB, wait for first hit and then LP,MP,FP,LK,MK,FK timed to the hits.

  • I should focus on getting Guile's Outfit 2, because I like using him and hate his outfit. Second priority could be Cammy's sexy original outfit. Third could be Ken, because he looks way different.

  • 2023-07-02
  • Completed the game with Dhalsim.
  • Completed the game with E. Honda.
  • 2023-07-08
  • Completed the game with Zangief.

    Double Perfect K.O. in the last round!

  • Completed the game with JP.

    I don't like JP as much, he's a bit stiff and not as visceral as most SF characters.

  • Completed the game with Blanka.

    Blanka is super fun in SF6, very intuitive and with a lot of options at all times.

  • 2023-07-09
  • Completed the game with Kimberly.

    Kimberly is fun to play. Apparently, she refers to herself as 'Ninjastar Kimberly Jackson'.

  • Completed the game with Juri.

    Juri is more intuitive that I thought, it's pretty fun to play with her.

  • Completed the game with Lily.
  • 2023-07-16
  • Completed the game with Jamie.

    I really don't like Jamie, he's very annoying. He's still fun to play, drinking 4 times enables a bunch of easy combos.

  • Completed the game with Manon.

    Manon is an interestingly different grappler, not really my cup of tea, though.

  • Completed the game with Marisa.
  • Accomplished Completed Arcade mode with all characters..
  • 2024-06-10
  • Completed the game with Marisa on difficulty (Arcade).
  • 2024-06-15
  • I was pretty tired after work today, and I just wanted to play something relaxing and mindless. I've become annoyed with my old beefy dude character in the World Tour, he just doesn't fit the role of nervous teenager that the story gives him. I found a cool looking woman on Reddit with the code VTWW3LLGR. I entered that, modified her a bit, and payed 1000 Zenny to update my dude to this woman. I also had to remember that this game has two different menu systems, and enter the touchpad menu to change my outfit. Now I'm moving along, and reached chapter 8 of the story.

  • I played all day and now I'm in chapter 11.
