Multi-platform Computer Games

1971
image

A group of games relied only on basic computer operating system features and were ported to a similar set of platforms often including UNIX, Linux, Windows, DOS, and Mac OS. Often, these games would be relatively easy to port due to having source code available. They most often use ASCII art and runs in a text terminal, although they would later get support for standalone windows and graphical tile sets. Popular games in this grouping are roguelikes and the Star Trek variants. This reason this pseudo-system grouping is introduced to this database is that playing these particular games on the different supported systems does not change the gameplay in a significant way.
