- I started a page on my wiki about R-Type in 2005 with links to guides.
- 2014-07-09: Found an old MAME save state on my old Dell Inspiron 510m laptop.
- Got the score 211700 in MAME. This was my best 1 credit run on MAME. While at Pollux Gamelabs, I recorded a replay, where I beat stages 1-5 without dying and then die over and over again on the beginning of stage 6...
- Got the score 193800 in MAME. 1-credit highscore attempt.
- Got the score 200700 in MAME. During a break, played my best game yet on the PD arcade machine. I'm still not super comfortable with the stick, but I'm improving.
- Streamed a game to Twitch, but didn't refresh the window size after playing vertical monitor games, so the stream was broken.
- I was streaming a few shooters to YouTube tonight, but did horribly at R-Type.
- I spent much of the trip from Copenhagen to Aalborg analyzing stage 7, the level I never beat before. I played it on emulation speeds from 0.2 to 1.2 to figure out enemy patterns and safe zones. I wrote some of the tactics down in my wiki.
- Got the score 226600 in MAME. I set up input recording for R-Type, specifically, and played a game worthy of YouTube uploading. After investigating video synchronization issues with this game specifically and writing about them in my blog, I have started playing the game at 109% speed, which doesn't seem to impact my performance.
- I got up early and put in an hour of R-Type training. With the difficulty of stage 7 in mind, I trained it with all the power-ups. I think I ended up with one too many speed power-ups, I should figure out how many is right for stage 6. With all power-ups, stage 8 seems almost trivial, although there are a lot of near misses...
- More training. The stage 5 meatball boss seems unreasonably hard if the level isn't started with power-ups.
- Søren had tweaked the monitor of his Xbox-based arcade machine, it looked fantastic, and I played through stages 1-4 in R-Type, and quickly died on stage 5.
- Søren and Nanna was married today, and Malu and I spent the day at their place, stuffing ourselves with delicious sushi and cakes. I got a little arcade time on his arcade machine, and played a bit of R-Type.
- I just added the Irem M72 platform to and it got the next available ID in the database: 72. What a magic moment. :)
- I'm training in MAME in half speed. My current plan is to assume that I can reach stage 5 (spaghetti and meatballs) with a full loadout, so I'm focusing on the parts that are difficult after that:
- Stage 5 boss: Bellmite is difficult. I have tried with the blue and yellow laser, but haven't found an easy pattern.
- Stage 6 (Transport System) is difficult, but I found a route that works most of the time, and the boss is trivial
- Stage 7 (City in Ruins): Right now, this is my worst nightmare. At least I think I have a system for the boss
- Stage 8 (The Bydo Empire's Star): Seems trivial
- The Red Laser seems way easier for Stage 5 and Bellmite. Getting the Red Laser in Stage 4 is key.
- Red Laser seems to be the best for stages 5-8.
- Actually, the Red Laser may not be the best for stage 7. Getting rid of the chaos of enemies using the Blue or Yellow Laser might help.
- Martin Donlon from Treyarch just committed a working MiSTer M72 core where R-Type is working, with sound and everything. I'm so excited for this!
- This core allows switching the frame rate between the original 55 Hz or 60 Hz, which is great for my 60 Hz recording setup.
- Got the score 219200 in MiSTer.

I played a bit on the Evercade at the Debug Indie Game Awards. There was a lot of tech issues which was a bit disappointing - not detecting a cartridge insert, menus locking up, and R-Type had crawling artifacts, their anti-aliasing is not doing what it is supposed to.
