Article: Metal Gear History
An somewhat dry overview of Metal Gear lore, focused on nailing down the facts about characters, locations, and factions.

I defeated Psycho Mantis, met Meryl, went through the Sniper Wolf fight, went to jail, and ran to the top of the Comms Tower.
I defeated the Hind and reached the Snowfield. Running up and down the Comm Tower stairs was really boring and not fun. What was it with games from this era and weirdly long staircase sequences?
During the recording of episode 4, I was frantically trying to prepare auto-fire for the torture sequence, and I accidentally skipped the cutscene before the torture sequence where Snake is just seeing the lights. I only kept one save (which seems fine for this game), but then I didn't have the ability to go back to re-record this. I managed to find some save files for the US version of the game from Reddit user TheCakeIsAPie, one just before the torture sequence. I loaded up the US version of the game and recorded that scene. I verified on YouTube that the cutscene is exactly the same, so it should be possible to stitch it into the recording of the Japanese Integral version. I also realized that Ocelot's voice line about your restraints are dynamically triggered by you moving around during the cutscene. That's the benefit of in-engine cutscenes. Perhaps surprisingly, this feature is almost never used in modern games.
I defeated Sniper Wolf using Nikita missiles. Easy.
I defeated Vulcan Raven using Claymores and reached the Metal Gear. I used the PAL key and cooled it down. This part is a little boring.
I put in the blue PAL key, and I'm back with the Red one.
Let's finish this.
